Meet Our Municipal Historians
New York is the only State requiring a public historian in every municipality. NYS Historian's Law 57.07. This law, adopted by the New York State Legislature in 1919, mandates that a historian be appointed for every municipality. New York State has over 550 Village Historians, over 930 Town Historians, over 55 County Historians, plus City, Borough, Community Historians, and 1 State Historian.
